Which Life Would You Want

Imagine you are sitting in your cubicle at work. You are going over some paper work that needs to be done before you get to leave for the night and the person next to you asks if you want to go somewhere for lunch with them. You know that you should probably stay at work and eat a sandwich or something so that you can get the paperwork done or you will end up staying late, again. Your spouse is getting tired of waiting for you to get home later from work every night, and it’s really starting to put a drag on your relationship.
Now, imagine you are working in an open office with comfortable furniture. Your spouse walks into your office and says they want to go to a fancy café they just heard about for dinner and you should go with them. You gladly put your paperwork down and head out the door to spend a quality afternoon with your spouse. You know that you have some work that has a deadline, but you can spend extra time on it that evening after dinner and get it all taken care of. In fact, you can probably get a late start tomorrow since it will be done tonight.
The difference between these two scenarios is not that you are the one in the cubicle and your boss is the one in the office. Although, that is usually how things work in management. No, the truth is that the cubicle worker is someone that works in an office building downtown making someone else a lot of money and getting paid close to nothing to do the work. The office worker is the one that works from home and doesn’t have a boss breathing down their neck all day long.
If you ask anyone out there in the real world which one of these scenarios they would prefer, you can almost guarantee that people will choose to be the one in the office rather than the cubicle. After all, it is human nature to want to have a stress free working environment where they can take a break if they need to and not have to worry about what someone else is going to say about it. So, the only real question that needs to be asked is why aren’t you working from home right now?
Sure, it may be a difficult change to make happen overnight, but that shouldn’t stop you from at least trying to make your life better. You don’t want to be some stuffy depressed cubicle worker the rest of your life, do you? Wouldn’t you prefer to be the one hitting the fancy café down the street with their spouse, and making the money that you would need to pay for a lunch like that, at the same time? There are plenty of benefits of working from home, but the only way you are ever going to find out what those benefits are is by getting started on your home business project.
